An engagement session is so exciting and so fun! This is where you get to know your photographer in action and they can get very creative with your session and you get to see how your photographer works before the wedding day.
Whether nature enthusiasts surround you or share a passion for meditation, your photos will capture the essence of your love and connection in an engagement session. I want to share some tips to help you prepare for a truly unforgettable experience:
1. Choose the Right Location
– Opt for a natural setting that resonates with both of you, such as a serene forest, a tranquil beach, or a picturesque park.
– Consider places that offer opportunities for meditation or reflection, like a peaceful garden or a quiet lakeside spot.
2. Coordinate Your Outfits
– Select outfits that complement each other without being too matchy. Think earthy tones, soft fabrics, and comfortable attire that allows you to move freely. Is important that whatever you two are wearing you feel comfortable and yourself in it.
– Avoid busy patterns or overly bold colors that could distract from the natural beauty of your surroundings, but if that is you go for it!
3. Embrace Minimalism
– Keep accessories and props to a minimum to maintain the focus on your connection with each other and mother nature.
– Consider bringing meaningful items like a favorite blanket for a cozy picnic or a simple bouquet of wildflowers for a touch of natural elegance.
4. Practice Mindfulness
– Take some time before the session to center yourselves through meditation or deep breathing exercises. This will help you feel relaxed, present, and ready to embrace the moment. I usually take my clients to a mini breath exercise before the session starts since the tension can be high you can just relax and enjoy.
– Focus on each other and the love you share, allowing any nerves or distractions to melt away.
5. Engage with Nature
– I like to incorporate elements of the natural world into your photo session, whether it’s a gentle breeze tousling your hair, the warmth of sunlight filtering through the trees, or the soft rustle of leaves underfoot. See my portfolio to see what I am talking about.
– Be open to spontaneous moments and interactions with the environment, letting the beauty of nature enhance your photos.
6. Trust Your Photographer
– Choose a photographer who shares your vision and loves nature just like you do. Look for someone who specializes in capturing candid moments and natural light is crucial.
– Communicate openly with your photographer about any specific ideas or you have in mind, but also trust their expertise and creativity to guide you through the session.
7. Choose an activity
– Deciding an activity for the photo session can be very fun and can truly reflect who you are as a couple. This way it won’t feel like a photoshoot, it will be just a fun date.
– Some examples for activities can be boardgames, go for ice cream, picnic, go for a hike, riding bicycle, anything that you both enjoy together that can reflect who you are.
8. Relax and Have Fun
– Remember that this is a celebration of your love, so let go of any expectations or pressures and simply enjoy being together.
– Laugh, dance, cuddle, and savor each moment, knowing that the memories you create during your engagement session will last a lifetime.
Remember this is all about the moment YOU have with your partner, the now is what is most important, embrace the love, embrace the zen, embrace nature, and let your photos tell the story of your unique journey together.
